Corner Bistro was my favorite until Shake Shack came around, which means that come October, when the Shack closes, the bistro will be at the top of my list in NYC again. Why so good? It has something to do with the beer, the deep-fried bacon, the double-sided broiler it's cooked on, the fresh, thick, juicy beef, and those good old pickle slices...

I have mentioned before how imprortant The Bistro is to the birth of this club, but what about this burger makes it so good.

The meat itself is always fresh, tender, greasy, just the way it should be. The sesame seed bun simple and far from noticable, a nice slice of onion placed underneath the patty, crispy crunch of iceburg and a tomato of course. If you go Bistro Burger, which I always do, you also get bacon and american cheese. This thing is sloppy, but really tasty, I mean really tasty. It comes served on a paper plate that does a nice job of soaking up the uncontrollable juices spilling after nearly everybite. My mouth waters just thinking about this burger.

There is almost always a line at the bistro which i would argue is part of the charm. Waiting in line with two mugs of McSorleys and a little Miles Davis in the background, what more do you want in life, well a Bistro Burger would be nice. But the wait is never too bad, if you need a third mug of beer, no problem. At 2 bucks a mug, Ill drink those things all night long.

The service is quick with no frills, the price is right and you really cant beat the ambiance. Not only is the bacon cooked in the deep fryer, but the fries are dipped in to the same oil, mmmmm. Did I mention that the Chili is amazingly good. What more can you say?

My love for the Bistro is infinite even though I don't think its really the best burger, its still my favorite place to have a burger in NY.

There's been a lot of chatter, both from fans and naysayers about the Bistro. While i can't say it's the best burger i've ever eaten, i can say that when the urge to burger strikes me, the Bistro is the first and usually last place that crosses my mind.
the Bistro Burger has it's own rituals, and i'm one the priests. there is a very delicate stacking order to the crispy bacon, firm tomato, crunchy lettuce shards, raw onion and the pickles, always extra pickles. there is always doubt as to the structural integrity of the bun, and there is always a line of grease running down my hand, but there are always cheap beers, and if you know when to go there is usually much less of a wait.
this place is in my mind synonymous with 'burger' and fo'ever will be.
gawd i love this joint!
and the fries are right on, crispy, salty. love it. love it. love it!

ok so i went to the bistro last weekend, on st. patty's day. I've been here three times before and it's been great every time. This time though, was different. We got there at around 130am, it wasnt particularly crowded, i've seen it worse. We ordered our burgers to go (bacon cheeseburgers w/ fries a must) because we wanted to catch our train home...This wouldn't prove necessary, it took 45 minutes for us to get our burgers...ridiculous...I was so tired and out of it by the time it was ready i didnt even really want to eat....so whatever we had some delicious food waiting and we sat down at the counter in the front and the bartender has the nerve to tell us next time tell him we're sitting down...if we hadnt had to wait 45 minutes for our burgers this wouldn't have been a problem...that guy was a jerk for no reason...either way...burger was eh...spices not that good...too much garlic....and meat fell apart immediately...usually a lot more intact...fries still delicious but i wasnt happy with the burger and might make the move to fanellis or big nicks next time im lookin for a late night fix

i definitely wouldn't say it's the best burger i've ever eaten, but it's pretty good. the thing is so thick i had trouble fitting it in my mouth. much of it fell apart, but was well worth the mess. the bacon was by far my favorite part.

Google search "best hamburger nyc" and you will find one restaurant in common with nearly every list, the Corner Bistro. It was even named checked in "The Best Burger in New York" episode of "How I Met Your Mother" on NBC. It's the burger to beat, or so we were told. In fact, some say our opinion was not credible without having taken a ride on the Bistro Burger train.

Enter a snowstorm struck Manhattan Friday afternoon and 5 people with the day off! Located in the West Village, the Corner Bistro is really nothing more than a ragged Irish bar with a menu so simple, that they don't print them. Burgers, chicken sandwich, grilled cheese, chili and fries. Without much fuss, we ordered a few beers, some fries and of course a burger each. Arriving was no small feat considering the weather conditions and that some of us had to take multiple trains to get there. The anticipation was building.

When the waiter arrived, he dropped Tim's burger on the table. The bacon slid into Jackie's glass. It was a mess. Did he take it back to get us another? No! He just left it there and said sorry. Chuck, who is allergic to cheese, specifically ordered his with out but with grilled onions. When it arrived it had cheese and no grilled onions. Both burgers had to be sent back.

My burger was small, in fact so small, that it left me hungry, even after a plate of fries. There was hardly any juice to the burger and it was over cooked on the edges. The bun fell apart as I ate it and for all the hype and all the excitement, I was really let down. It was your average burger, nothing more nothing less. The overcooked shoe string fries, the same they served in my high school cafeteria were nothing to be excited about. In fact, it was like a summer block buster movie, loaded with celebrities that in the end was all advertising and marketing but no story.

Add in the terrible service and I just can't feel any excitement about this place.
