Drumroll please...........................Peter Lugar has officially earned my first A on the burger tour. I tried to find a flaw with the burger and well, its just not really there. Why not an A+ you might ask??? Well, mine wasn't cooked quite perfect, but I am starting to loosen up a little bit on all the kitchens because I know how hard it must be to cook 10 burgers at once, and cook them exactly how everyone wants them. Still, it wasn't cooked perfectly it gets an A.

As far as the burger basics are concerned, I can't imagine making a burger much better than this one. The meat was ground loose and fresh. The flavours were rich, the juices flowed perfectly, the bun held the patty with out any serious mess, even the tomato and onion were fresh and flavourful. Sticking with the purest aproach I was a little weary of the famous Lugar sauce, but after driseling a bit on one bite, i found it to complement the meat wonderfully.

I think the bacon needs its own section because it was just so damn good. In fact I ate most of it on the side because it was such a thick slab of meat that it could easily slide around the patty. None of this really effected the burger experience, if anything, it enhanced it.

What else can you say? The beer was as fresh and clean as a beer will get, the waiter was fun and attentive. The fries were simply overpowerd by the burger, so they were really a non factor for me. If you haven't been to Peter Lugars for a burger yet, you simply must go.

The angels come uponeth and swept me up to the glorious heaven where upon I shook the hand of one Peter Luger. He held a striking resemblance to my grandfather. I scratched my head as I questioned if his name was infact Peter Luger. Could there be a mistake? Could Luger simply be a typo? Perhaps Luger was really a Lubitz? A huge smile casts on my face as I relish in the moment.

Rarely in my life do I find myself at a loss for words as I describe food. Today I have found myself at one of those cross roads. I can not speak. I can not write. I can not do anything but grin from ear to ear when I think about the burger I had yesterday at Peter Lubitz'. Simply the best!

I now have a new found purpose in life. To wrap my mouth around a burger that tastes better than this. Will it happen? I have a feeling that much meat will befriend my arteries before I find a better bite.

all our burgers this visit were rad, i've heard from others that this place can be awesome sometimes and just ok other times... i guess we got the awesome. definitly worth a second visit one day to see how they hold up again.

My god, everyone, i think we have crossed another barrier last monday at Peter Luger....if Fanellis was close to breaking the speed of sound, Peter Luger has definetely approached the absolute resistance of the speed of light...and we all know that nothing, and i mean nothing, can go faster, and in this case, burgerer. I have been personally drowned into the generosity, tenderness, and richness of this patty, as if both my mind and body were becoming part of this gargantuan patty. I must confess that i tried to resist at first, playing with the immensily tasty strip of canadian bacon, pouring a bit of legendary Peter Luger steak sauce here and there, but nothing could have prevented me from succumbing to this near-perfect-burger experience...it was a bit of a shock. I still have flashbacks of this bright red, heavily granular and freshly grounded beef popping in my mind, and it feels like my understanding of burgers is not quite the same since monday....i took me a while to be able to speak about it.
But today, i am happy to say that this burger is an A burger (and not an A+ since lettuce didn't come with it without asking), and that this Luger has taught us a whole lot about pattyness and bun-itude...MerBurger, SannOuich, and BurgerSicko seem to concurr: we are all not quite the same since monday.

Walking into Peter Luger's is like walking into a time capsule. It has that old school feeling. The feeling that they know how to cook meat.

And, boy, do they.

The burger is all about the meat - and there's a whole lot of it. In fact, we had to request onion and tomato for the table since neither come with the burgers by default. I think this is a sign the restaurant doesn't want any other flavors interfering with their burger meat or the famous sauce, which is fine by me. The sauce was divine and it was cooked perfectly into each burger. Luckily there are gravy boats full of the sauce on each table so you can add more and even dip your fries in it. Our side of the table poured sauce over the onion and tomato plate to let them marinate before putting them on our burgers. The sesame bun had a home-baked feel and was hearty enough to keep the sauce from turning the experience into a sopping mess.

One burger connoisseur asked: "Is she eating the burger or is the burger eating her?" I have to admit this is the first burger I couldn't finish. I was defeated by it's mythical proportions and wonderful taste. The meat was thick, juicy, and ground that day on the premises. Our waiter explained that most restaurants use leftover meat to prepare their burgers but that Peter Luger's uses fresh hand-selected steak meat - a definite benefit to eating burgers at a steak house.

I want to give props to Mike, our waiter, for keeping us happy. It's too bad he didn't have extra Peter Luger embossed pocket protectors on hand or he would have gotten Burger Club fans for life.

I'll definitely be going back to Peter Luger's, and it might not be for the steak.

I don't know how there can be a better burger!!! I have come to the conclusion that Highlander was wrong, there CAN be more than one! best burger ever? pretty close. i have come to appreciate the subtle differences that make each burger unique in it's own way, each one enjoyable as the next, celebrating their glorious differences.
then i eat a burger like the LugerBurger. mine was cooked perfect. the little pink cow on the bun said "M.RARE" and it was fantastic. i ate the bacon on the side, for fear of structural failure, and i devoured the entire juicy, flavorful, mouth watering delight, washed down with wonderful Brooklyn Lagers. and the sauce! baby LOVES sauce, and this was the perfect balance of compliment and assertiveness. i gave an unabashed A+ to this beautiful creation. The fries were fantastic too. as a connosseur of the fried potato, i am pretty stringent in my qualifications of what makes for good potatos, and these were spot on. crispy, but flaky inside, proper salting, good oil. loved them!
I was so freaking happy after i left. i can't wait to eat another!

Definitely a good burger, not a great one by any stretch. Totally inconsistent (sometimes the burger is rare on one side and overcooked on the other - that grill working in the kitchen?). I've had 4 burgers there this year and can only say that one was great. Love the bacon - very consistent.
