The Burger Joint....the name is synonymous with this excellent stand hiding in the lobby of the NY Parker Meridien. I naively thought it would be the same in San Francisco and headed there ready to double check the grill virtuosity of the same folks on the other coast....but nada. The BJ in SF is an independtly run diner sitting on a great corner, with comfy plush benches overlooking the intersection. Any burgerer like us will instantly feel at home here...
And their burger feels homemade as well. Their extra care at grilling a solid half-pound patty and charring it right is instantly noticeable. The sesame buns, maybe slightly too perfect and too white in my opinion, were lightly toasted and brushed with a thin layer of special sauce, a very nice point as well. Add to that a crispy bright green lettuce, a super thin slice of pickle and you end up biting into a very classy, generous, diner-style burger with hardly any deffects. A little bit of what Burger Heaven in NY is trying to be. The juiceness was a good point as well, with the right amount of drip on your plate, without leaving you with a ripped off bun between your fingers. You can't loose with this baby, and i think its location makes it a perfect solid recovery detox (retox?) burger. But did it leave me with an indescribable taste and with an emotion such that i'd keep talking about it for weeks? Probably not. This is B+ burger.
