how was it? which location?
This is the the place that strated it all... Waterfront Ale House in Brooklyn is where Mrs. B (merBurger) Dr. Sannwich and I went to try one of the "outer borough" recomendations from the Having never been to this place, we figured we would get a standard burger to allow us to drink at the birthday meeting afterwards... what we ended up eating went far beyond our little burger expectations. From the free popcorn while you wait to the list of top notch beers, this place was no standard pub grub. They even have "award winning" BBQ ribs!
When our burgers first arrived, the Dr. and I didn't stop talking about it till we were at our next destination... "if some outer borough mention is this good, what the hell is the top 10 like?!" It was with that question that we gained our first recruits and formed the BurgerClub to venture into Woodside Queens to try TONY's #1... Donovan's.
Having gone back to the Waterfront several times now, I am still impressed with the entire experience. The service and amotsphere along with the thick, explosive prime angus beef patty give this place an easy A in my book.
Angus burger with cheese, lettuce, tomato, onion(raw), fries, and a small side pickle will set you back around $12. depending on the day, you can also get other meats too... bison or ostridge for more money. I'm all about the beef.

On December 10th for my hubby's 31st birthday - we came to this neighborhood bar with no expectations. An hour later we walked out of the pub transformed. It was the ultimate burger experience and having frequented it about 5 times since then, I can still affirm this is my second favorite burger ever to hit the planet. It is truly a wonderful mouthwatering experience.
Each bite is accompanied with a sigh and the last bite is just as good as the first. The meat is buttery good and cooked to perfection. The bun complements the meat with tender care. The fries, cross between french bistro and brunch fried goodness. Beers on tap are plentiful and popcorn to start give the jaws a rehearsal before the burger recital to follow.
I love this spot. May be one of my favorite watering holes in Brooklyn and I have officially placed myself on the lifetime customer "Please-do-call" list.

How could I deny this place an A? Might have to agree with Merburger and Burgerseeker that this place it second only to the Luger Burger. It might have a tough battle with Fanelli for #2, but it gets a firm A also for the succesfully kicking off BurgerClub into submission.
The words out of each of our mouths when leaving the place was "The explosion!" This is because the first bite out of this baby released a spray of juice unmatched in my burger adventures. A truly remarkable feature that still keeps me wondering the science of this perfectly cooked gem.
The Brioch bun here is probably the best one out there because its doesn't overwelm the patty with its size and sweet flavour. I have been here twice, and both times the patty was cooked to perfection; charred on the outside, and red into pink in the middle, just the way I like it. The cheese selection is extensive, the grilled onion is a nice option, and the lettuce tomato combo is not overbearing, but complementary as it should be.
Great harty fries with the potatos skin left on, and the service comes with a smile. You almost feel like your off in the country somewhere once stepping into this tavernous bar/restaurant. Its all good at the Waterfront Ale House. BC needs to organize a Manhattan location event to see if it reaches the high standard held in Brooklyn.

As a well done guy, I'm not a fan of gigantic burgers. There's no real way to cook them properly... ask for well done and you get a burnt cinder wrapped around a still raw center... bleah.
Still if you ask the chef he will cut the burger in half leaving you with acceptable eats. And it's hard to deny that the Ale house uses top notch meat. I was told by a bus boy it is was ground fresh with a bit of garlic, sea salt, some ketchup, and steak sauce.
The bun is excellent. no complaints there... so it was a good burger, but I hate having to be a pain in the ass to the people in the kitchen and wish they offered a skinny burger option.
