Screw you Mr. Fancy Pants... how the schmeck could TONY give this burger a #4 in their review?!
For $13 this burger should have been the bomb... but all I liked about it was the fries. It was not anywhere close to belonging in the top 10... maybe we all got a bunk burger... or maybe the meat fell in some saw dust... not sure, but for that kind of money I'd rather pay for a plane ticket to LA.
OK, so it's not that bad... well, yes it is. I just hate it when a burger gets all sorts of great reviews, costs a day laborers weekly pay, and ends up being not so good... and these damn fancy buns these bistros like to use... it takes away from anything good that might be left in the thing... too big, or too stale, or just too damn sucky... throw a sesame potato roll on it for Pete's sake! It's better than your fancy Eli's or whatever stale crap you use.
If you go to Pastis, stick with the good stuff... Steak, Mussels, and the Fries... unless you just spent $30 to go party at one of the near by clubs and have either drunk away your taste or are on goofy pills, this burger will disappoint any true BurgerFan.

I spent a lot of money at Pastis that day. Had a lovely expensive brunch cocktail. Had a great time if it wasn't for having to pay the bill at the end. I knew what I was in for. I've had Pastis' raved about steak sandwich 2 times and neither time was it worth the rave.
But can't deny that our host was one Hot man! our huge rustic table was very nice. I love the light in that restaurant and KJ's photos are great.
That was a warm day and nothing could bring us down right?
The burger- I don't know, just average. No comment

No need to really comment on the restaurant since most anyone who's spent a decent amount of time in ny has visited this meatpacking standby. The fries as you probably know are amazing, but the burger, not so much.
Pastis serves a sirloin burger which tends to be too lean making for a chewy patty that lacks flavour. To go along with the puck, they serve a brioch bun that is far to thick and ends up consuming the meat itself. Looking at the halfed profile you can see the bun makes up for 50% of the sandwich which is a poor ratio. The bun is simply there to hold the thing together, the right bun can add a nice complement the rest of its flavours, but it should by no means dominate the burger. This burger just simply doesn't work out well. Chewy flavourless meant, overpowering bun, nicely sliced red onion, romain lettuce and a tasty tomato slice, but the primary elements are simply wrong. Stick with the bistro fare at pastis, youll be glad you did.
