Listed as #7 on yet another Jack's also got a ... it was this second time that I saw Jack's mentioned that I figured my repeat visit to would have to wait for another trip down to South Florida.
Jack's has been around since 1972, and the second location in Pompano Beach, opened in 1973... so someting is right. When we arrived, i felt a liitle like I was walking into a piece of Florida history... kind of a mix of Arnolds (Happy Days) meets Long John Silver. Also felt like I should have seen roller girl serving up shakes in the parking lot. But no, this is a dine in or take out place, no roller girl, or musscle cars waiting at the curb.
The menu is simple but full of options: burgers, hot dogs, a few sandwiches, sodas and shakes. You have a choice of ordering a 1/4, 1/3, or 1/2 burger. You can add for a small fee, cheese, grilled peppers and or onions, L+T, chili, and bacon. We both ordered a med. rare cheese ($5.15ea) w/ L+T ($.40)... the L+T comes on the side in a ziplock bag... two fries($1.35ea), and one vanilla shake($2.75) for a total of around $17
Once you get your made to order burger, you have a nice selection of condiments to dress it up with if you choose. The free dressing bar has choped white onions, thin sliced pickled, mustard-dill relish or zesty tomato-based sweet pepper relish, and your basic ketchup, mustard, and mayo.
The burgers are made from fresh ground brisket and inside round, done on the premises once or twice daily. Served on a plain toasted bun in a red palstic basket lined with wax paper. For the 1/2 lb Jumbo Jack, you get more width than hieght... and this makes eating a two handed afair.
Overall I felt that this burger was way better than typical fast food joints, and even better than most made to order places... but I can't say that I was better off this trip by eating at Jack's instead of the near by [url=http://www.jahanbini.com/BurgerClub/viewtopic.php?t=145Le Tub.[/url] The burgers at Jack's are good, but I don't think I would put it in he top 10 of a nation wide list. The flavors of the meat were, not as yummy as fresh ground brisket and round can be... or that i've had... maybe the mostly brisket patty could have used some more chuck to round out the taste? Or perhpas if it was flame kissed instead? The reviews I've seen online say that these bad boys are "chargrilled"... not. Perhaps they changed? not. These guys are griddle cooked, aka fried on a flat top stove... not that that's a bad thing, but I thought I would just clarify.
I enjoyed my meal, but wasn't like, wowed by it.
